Ultra Electronics, Advanced Tactical Systems Chooses CoreDX DDS

October 23, 2012 - Ultra Electronics, Advanced Tactical Systems (ATS) specializes in designing, manufacturing and supporting tactical command and control systems, subsystems and products for Defense and Homeland Security applications worldwide. ATS is currently using CoreDX DDS communications middleware in two of their products: the Advanced Fusion and Tracking System (AFTS)™ and the Advanced Correlation and Tracking System (ACTS)™. Both of these systems are used to integrate real-time data from multiple sensors (such as air surveillance radars) into a single tactical picture. The output of the AFTS or ACTS products is a stream of track data that can be used for a variety of purposes both military and civil, from maintaining situational awareness over a large area to command and control of a single aircraft during battle.

These systems use a service-oriented architecture in which software processes are dynamically configured at runtime to perform the various functions of the system. Any given process can be reconfigured—essentially becoming a new module—without affecting the rest of the processes. This allows a user to modify or extend the input, output, or data processing configurations of the system while it continues to operate.

ATS uses CoreDX DDS as the communications backplane for all these processes to share configuration and control information, as well as the real-time data that the system consumes and produces.

“We selected CoreDX based on Twin Oaks’ competitive pricing and flexible licensing. We are switching to CoreDX from another DDS middleware product. We have been very pleased with the technical support provided by Twin Oaks during our integration effort.” – Mark Crank, ATS

Twin Oaks computing adheres to the OMG DDS standard, allowing for portability between vendors who support this standard. This multi-vendor portability is enabled by the DDS set of standards, allowing for the seamless transition from one DDS vendor to another when one is more aligned with a client’s needs.

Twin Oaks Computing believes development and deployment licensing doesn't have to be complicated, and we are excited our licensing is a perfect fit for companies like ATS.

“We respect that our customer's time is valuable and strive to provide the quickest responses in the industry. Whether you are evaluating our software, exploring an R&D project, or dealing with critical commercial deadlines, we will always provide prompt and responsive support.” – Laura M Clark, Twin Oaks Computing

Infrastructure is an important component in long lasting systems, and Twin Oaks Computing is proud to provide a proven, flexible, interoperable, powerful solution to communication needs for our customers around the globe.
