CoreDX DDS Tips & Tricks

Welcome to this month's edition of CoreDX DDS Tips & Tricks, where our engineers provide quick bits of information to help our customers.

Looking to reduce the size of DDS generated code?

Each and every 'top level' structure defined in an IDL file is by default turned into a data type that can be used for a Topic, be written with DataWriters and be read with DataReaders. If your IDL file(s) contain top level structures that are only nested within other structures, there is no need for the additional generated code for a full TypeSupport, DataWriter, and DataReader.

The IDL annotation @nested may be added to a struct definition to indicate that this data type is not a top level data type that will be used for Topics, DataWriters, and DataReaders. As such, the generated code for @nested structure data types is much less than for other top level data types.

CoreDX DDS Tips & Tricks are intended to be useful for engineers using CoreDX DDS. If you have any questions, please contact us.
